Announcing My NaNoWriMo 2018 Project!

It’s that time of year again… NaNoWriMo is coming! (I feel like I’m so behind on NaNo prep and everything this year even though I got an early start?!? Like it’s a week away and I haven’t even announced my novel yet!?!? What is happening????)

So. Anyway. What is NaNoWriMo you ask? Well, it’s my favorite time of the year. Aka: National Novel Writing Month. Where, basically, a ton of crazy writers decide we’re going to write AN ENTIRE NOVEL OF 50,000 words IN JUST ONE MONTH!!! You can find out more about it on the site here and also add me as a buddy here.

I’ve been doing NaNo since 2013 when, in the midst of moving, I decided to try out this super crazy thing having only ever written one book before that took me MONTHS to write the first draft of and with a super half-assed “outline” (it was really just an idea. A vague idea at that.) Now, somehow, I don’t know how, I managed to win that first year??? And I’ve done it every year since! And won! Honestly, nothing is as fun and frustrating and stressing as NaNoWriMo and this time of the year would just not feel right if I didn’t do NaNo.

Moving on!

What am I writing this year? I’m glad you asked.

Drum roll please.

Magic In The City of Sin:

Set in a futuristic, magical Las Vegas where elementalists are the most highly regarded of celebrities, two girls from opposing family’s fall in love amidst a backdrop of betrayal.

When her brother suffers an accident that nearly kills him mid-performance in the extravagant Lumara hotel and casino during the years biggest magical exhibition, Emersyn Adala knows it can only be the fault of the Castells. For centuries, their families have fought and killed one another, the two strongest elemental families constantly at odds. Only, Em was finally starting to think the feud would end. She’d gone and fallen in love with the Castell’s heir, Lila, after all. But now, all signs point to Lila having been the one to sabotage Isaac to make them lose the exhibition.

When the accidents return the following year and more and more elementalists end up hurt, the girls have to shove aside their feelings and work together to find out who’s targeting their families; before someone ends up dead.

Romeo & Juliet with magic and lesbians.

Ta da!

So, yeah. This will be a YA urban fantasy novel. I’m so excited because it’s my first time writing urban fantasy! Also, the romance. I’m so ready to dive into writing a book that’s pretty much all about a magic competition and an epic romance between two messes of girls.

I should probably go finish my outline now…

Are you doing NaNo this November? If so, what genre is your project and what element of your story most excites you???
